]]>Phishing is the most common cybercrime in recent times, and it has become so common because sometimes it could be hard for people to really identify that the email or text message they get is not from the original or legitimate institution. Phishing messages are designed to look genuine, and often copy the format used by the organization the scammer is pretending to represent, including their branding and logo. They will take you to a fake website that looks like the real deal but has a slightly different address. For example, if the legitimate site is ‘www.fidelitybank.ng’, the scammer may use an address like ‘www.fideiltybank.ng’. Notice there are not the same.
There are so many types of phishing attacks which include email phishing, spear phishing, link manipulation, fake websites, CEO fraud, content injection, session hijacking, malware, mobile phishing, voice phishing, man in the middle ware, malvertising, and so many others.
Common Features of Phishing Emails
An example of a phishing attack

Imagine that you saw these email do you see any sign that it’s a scam? but let get to analyze it.
At a glance, this email might look real, but it’s not. The scammers who send emails like this do not have anything to do with the companies they pretend to be. This can have a big consequence on the individual who fall victim and give scammers their details.
How to protect yourself
What to do if you suspect a phishing attack.
If you get an email or a text message that asks you to click on a link or open an attachment, answer this question: Do I have an account with the company?
If the answer is “No,” it could be a phishing scam. Delete the message or email.
If the answer is “Yes,” contact the company using a phone number or website you know is real. Not the information in the email. Attachments and links can install harmful malware.
What to do if you responded to a phishing email
If you think scammers have your details, like bank account number, credit card details, etc. visit https://www.identitytheft.gov. There you would see the specific steps to take based on the information you lost.
